Juventus ready to sell Arsenal target Locatelli next summer

Manuel Locatelli

Juventus are reportedly ready to cash in on Arsenal target Manuel Locatelli in the upcoming summer window, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.

The Gunners hold a long-term interest in the Italian international as they were heavily linked with a move for him before his switch to the Bianconeri during the summer of 2021. However, the midfielder hasn’t been able to blossom in Massimiliano Allegri’s system at the Allianz Stadium, despite featuring regularly.

According to the report by Calciomercatoweb, Juventus are looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic to strengthen their engine room and want to sell Locatelli to raise cash in order to fund the Croatian’s transfer.

The report further claims that Arsenal are the most interested club in luring Locatelli away from the Old Lady of Turin and they could make a summer swoop for him now that he’s become available.

Locatelli to Arsenal

It isn’t a secret that Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield department this summer, despite purchasing Jorginho on deadline day from Chelsea last January.

The north London club have reportedly prioritised a move for West Ham star Declan Rice, but it seems Locatelli is also on the Gunners’ radar.

The Juventus man – valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt – can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, and also has the efficiency to contribute on both ends of the pitch.

So, Locatelli would be a solid signing for Arsenal and would be able to support both Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey if he were to join the club.

However, with Arsenal prioritising a move for Rice next summer, it appears Locatelli could be an back-up target that Arteta’s side are lining up if they fail to secure a deal for the West Ham ace.

But, the Juventus man has more experience playing at the highest level, helping his national team in winning Euro 2020 a couple of years ago. So, I feel he could be a better and cheaper option for the north London club over Rice to bolster their midfield.
