Arsenal showing interest in Eintracht Frankfurt star Djibril Sow

Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow, as per the German outlet Sport Bild.

The 25-year-old joined the Bundesliga side back in 2019 from Switzerland giants Young Boys for a fee of around £7m. Since joining the club, the midfielder has established himself as a regular starter, aiding his team in winning the Europa League title last term.

The Gunners appear to be keen on strengthening their engine room in this upcoming January transfer window and the Swiss has emerged as a new potential target for Mikel Arteta’s side in recent times.

Sow – valued at around £19m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final 18 months of his current contract with the German club and he is yet to renew his deal. So, Olivier Glasner’s side could cash in on their star man this winter in order to make the most profit out of his sale if he doesn’t agree on signing an extension.

According to the report by Sport Bild, Arteta is looking to bolster his midfield options in the upcoming January window and Sow is one of the names who is on the Spanish boss’ wishlist.

Djibril Sow to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal could face competition to sign the Switzerland international this winter as fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest are also eyeing a move for him.

Although Djibril Sow won’t be a fancy signing for Arsenal, he could be a useful acquisition. The midfielder is comfortable with the ball, works extremely hard without the possession and can be deployed anywhere across the middle of the park.

So, the 25-year-old can deputise for both Thomas Partey and his compatriot Granit Xhaka if needed. He would be a utility option for Arteta to rotate his squad and keep his midfield options fresh if he were to join the club.

So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will make a move for Sow this January. Signing the midfielder could be a shrewd decision and adding more firepower to the engine room would help Arteta in mounting a title charge after the new year.
