Arsenal face battle to finish in the top 4 next season

By on July 15, 2019

It’s been a frustrating summer for Arsenal fans as Unai Emery is struggling to strengthen his squad and it looks increasingly unlikely that we’ll have a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League in-place by the time the new campaign kicks-off next month.

Arsenal have been given the least likely odds of all the Big Six teams to win next year’s Premier League title, currently sitting at 33/1. If you are looking for a reliable betting platform with a generous welcome bonus comb through these to find a book prior to the first game of the season on August 9. While even the most optimistic Gunners fans wouldn’t expect the team to be on par with Man City (4/7) or Liverpool (9/4), they will likely be disappointed that their team is lagging well behind Tottenham (16/1), Chelsea (22/1), and Man U (25/1), especially since Arsenal finished last season four points and +10 goals better than United.

While a league title may be out of reach for Arsenal in 2020, according to oddsmakers, a Champions League spot is certainly not. The Gunners odds to finish in the top four have been set at about 11/8, which equates to a 42% chance. Unai Emery has a decent track record of getting his teams into Europe’s top tournament, leading Sevilla and PSG to four straight UCL qualifications before missing out in his first year with Arsenal.

We missed out on the top four by a single point last season and we only had ourselves to blame. Arsenal were in pole position to finish third with five games remaining but a horror run of results saw us lose to Crystal Palace, Wolves and Leicester City before only managing a draw at home to Brighton.  Victory at Burnley on the final weekend wasn’t enough as we finished a point behind Tottenham but if Emery had managed to collect just one win over Palace, Wolves, Leicester or Brighton then Arsenal would have clinched a top four place and with it Champions League qualification.

Emery will be desperate to make up for it this coming season and the race for the top four is expected to be just as tight. Manchester City and Liverpool are almost assured of another 1-2 at the top of the table so it will be down to Arsenal to battle it out with Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham for the remaining two places.

Chelsea are unable to strengthen due to their transfer ban and have taken a huge risk by hiring the inexperienced Frank Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri so it could be a difficult season for the Blues. However, United and Spurs are spending big money in the transfer market this summer so Arsenal face a tough task finishing above them unless Emery manages to land some top class signings over the coming weeks.
