Arsenal eye move to sign Matias Fernández-Pardo
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a late swoop to sign LOSC Lille forward Matias Fernández-Pardo, as per French outlet Foot Mercato.
Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have decided to refresh the squad this summer to continue the momentum next campaign.
They have added depth to the goalkeeping department by signing Illan Meslier as a free agent. On the other hand, they have reinforced the engine room by purchasing Bruno Guimaraes after cashing in on Christian Norgaard.
However, the Brazilian sustained a problem against Manchester City in the Community Shield. As a result, he is reportedly set to remain sidelined for a few days.
Moreover, Arsenal have purchased Christos Tzolis following Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas, and the 24-year-old has enjoyed a promising start this season.
Apart from the Greek, the North London club currently have Gabriel Martinelli as an option to deploy on the left flank. However, he has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with his existing deal set to run until next summer.
Now, Foot Mercato state that Arsenal are interested in signing a new forward late in this transfer window and have identified Fernández-Pardo as a serious option.
Fernández-Pardo to Arsenal
Apart from the Gunners, RB Leipzig and Atlético Madrid are also in this race. The German side have already launched a formal €35m bid, while Los Rojiblancos have submitted a €40m proposal.
However, Les Dogues have turned down both proposals as they don’t want to let him leave, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. They will only change their stance should they receive an offer of around €70m[£60m].
The report state that Fernández-Pardo is keen on leaving to take the next step in his career and recently held talks with Lille to find a solution. But the French side are keen on keeping him, having already sold Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City.
Arsenal have been monitoring his situation closely before making a potential late swoop.
Fernández-Pardo, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a versatile right-footed forward as he is comfortable in the CF and left wing positions. The 21-year-old is a talented player and possesses high potential, so he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
