Arsenal make contact to sign Marseille’s Igor Paixao

By on August 27, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Olympique de Marseille forward Igor Paixao, as per TEAMtalk.

After joining Feyenoord from Brazilian side Coritiba back in 2022, the 26-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before establishing himself as a key starter.

Paixao showcased his productivity in the Eredivisie during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 18 goals and registering 14 assists across all competitions.

Having been impressed by his performances, Marseille decided to purchase him last summer. Although the Ligue 1 giants displayed inconsistent performances last term, Paixao showed glimpses of his qualities, making 18 goal contributions in all tournaments.

He showcased his goal-scoring prowess during the pre-season, scoring four goals in as many matches. The forward even impressed during his side’s win over Strasbourg in the opening Ligue 1 fixture last weekend.

Now, TEAMtalk state that despite already purchasing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, Arsenal are considering buying a new forward before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

After missing out on top targets like Anthony Gordon, Vinicius Junior and Morgan Rogers, the Gunners have now identified Paixao as a serious option. They have even held talks to learn about the details of signing him.

Paixao to Arsenal

Apart from the Brazilian, Arsenal have enquired about the availability of Bradley Barcola, Ibrahim Mbaye, Iliman Ndiaye and Nico Williams. But Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Barcola.

The report state that Arsenal will have to overcome several obstacles to sign Paixao, as Sunderland and Leeds United are also in this race. The Black Cats have agreed on personal terms with him but have seen two official bids rejected by Marseille.

The French giants’ new boss Bruno Genesio is keen on keeping hold of Paixao and is ready to resign if the club opt to cash-in on him. So, Marseille are reluctant to sell him, with his existing deal set to run until 2030.

Paixao is a right-footed left-winger. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and can create opportunities for fellow attackers.

Moreover, he has an eye for scoring goals from distance and works hard without possession. Paixao is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
