[Video Goals] Arsenal 2-0 Sydney FC: Lacazette scores in pre-season opener
Alexandre Lacazette got himself on the scoresheet on his un-competitive debut as Arsenal eased to a 2-0 win over Sydney FC in our pre-season opener today.
Arsene Wenger named a side mixed with youth and experience but it was our 32-year-old skipper who opened the scoring as Per Mertesacker found the back of the net in the 4th minute with an acrobatic effort.
We continued to dominate and wasted a golden chance to double our advantage shortly after the break when we were wrongly awarded a penalty when Theo Walcott’s goal-bound effort was blocked.
The ref thought it had caught the Sydney players arm but replays showed it hit his back so justice was done when Danny Welbeck saw the resulting spot kick saved.
We finally made it 2-0 and it was our record signing Lacazette who got it as he scored 14 minutes in to his debut as he swept home from close range after being teed-up by Alex Iwobi in the 83rd minute.
