Team News: Wenger confirms double injury blow, good news on 2 others
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his press conference this morning and he’s offered a mixed team news update ahead of Monday’s trip to Crystal Palace.
Let’s start with the bad news and we’ll once again be without our best two goalkeepers as Wenger has confirmed that neither Petr Cech or David Ospina will return for the game.
Cech has missed the last two matches with a calf injury and there were hopes he’d be passed fit for the Palace game but it seems he’s not recovered in time.
Ospina sat out Wednesday’s win over West Ham after picking up a muscular problem against Man City last weekend and the Colombian is also still on the sidelines so Emi Martinez will retain his place in goal.
However, there was better news on Francis Coquelin as the midfielder is back in contention to face Palace after missing the West Ham game due to a family bereavement.
Wenger also had some good news on Laurent Koscielny after revealing that while the centre-back will miss Monday night’s game, his Achilles injury is better than expected as he hasn’t suffered tendon damage so he shouldn’t be out for too long.
Here is what the boss told reporters this morning:
At Colney. Wenger: "Coquelin is back available after his family problem. No Cech or Ospina on Monday night." So Martinez will start v #cpfc.
