Arsenal suffer major injury blow, rookie to start vs West Ham
It looks like Arsene Wenger has a goalkeeping crisis to contend with against West Ham as the Mirror are reporting that David Ospina is set to miss out with a back problem.
With Petr Cech missing due to a calf strain that he picked up against West Brom last month, Ospina started his first Premier League game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Colombian international needed treatment after suffering a back injury in the second half following an awkward fall but he managed to continue and complete the full ninety minutes.
However, the Mirror claim the injury has developed over the past few days and is now expected to keep Ospina out of tomorrow night’s clash with West Ham at the Emirates.
With Cech not expected back for at least another week, it means Wenger may be forced to throw rookie goalkeeper Emi Martinez in to action tomorrow night.
The 24-year-old hasn’t played a Premier League game for Arsenal in almost three years and has only ever made 11 appearances for the first team in all competitions – with the majority of those coming in the League Cup.
That’s hardly the ideal situation heading in to a must-win game as we look to keep ourselves in contention for the top four with a win over the Hammers.
However, hopefully Martinez can take his chance to impress and he looked solid enough during his appearances in the League Cup earlier in the season.
