Arsenal u-turn: Wenger blocks proposed loan move for want-away star
It looks as though Mathieu Debuchy is going to have to stay at Arsenal as French outlet Le10 Sport claims that Arsene Wenger has blocked his proposed loan move away from the club.
Debuchy has endured a torrid time since joining Arsenal from Newcastle United in 2014 as his first season in north London was disrupted by serious injury which restricted him to making just 15 appearances in all competitions.
In his absence, Hector Bellerin took his chance and has made the right-back role his own with Debuchy managing to make just 7 appearances in 2015/16 before being loaned to Bordeaux during the second half of the season.
With his first team chances limited at Arsenal the 31-year-old was expected to secure another loan move this summer with the likes of Espanyol, Fiorentina, Inter Milan and several French clubs all primed to launch deadline day moves.
However, French outlet Le10 Sport claims that Wenger has now blocked Debuchy’s exit and has asked him to remain at the Emirates following Calum Chambers’ loan move to Middlesbrough.
The report says talks are still ongoing between Debuchy’s camp and Arsenal officials but as it stands Wenger isn’t going to let the full-back leave as we need him to act as cover for Bellerin.
I was a big fan of Debuchy when he first joined but his career was derailed by injuries. If he could get himself 100% fit again he’d be a solid back-up for Hector and I’m sure he’d get a few games in the Cups this season.

With Chambers gone and Gabriel and Mertesacker injured, I think it’s the right decision to keep Debuchy on the books otherwise we’ll be leaving ourselves short at the back.
