Arsenal man ruled out after suffering thigh injury
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been ruled out of Poland’s crucial Euro 2016 Group C clash with Germany on Thursday night after suffering a thigh injury.
Szczesny picked up the injury during Poland’s opening 1-0 win over Northern Ireland on Sunday and was immediately classed as a major doubt to face the world champions tomorrow.
The Gunners keeper has been undergoing treatment over the past couple of days but national team coach Adam Nawalka has now confirmed that there is ‘no chance’ he’ll be able to face the Germans.
With Szczesny out, Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski or Artur Boruc of Bournemouth will start in between the sticks but Nawalka isn’t giving anything away just yet.
He’s quoted as saying by Sky Sports News:
“There is no chance for Szczesny to play tomorrow, the team doctor has made the decision,”
“Tomorrow I will announce who will play in goal.”
It will be a huge blow for Wojciech to miss this game as Poland go searching for a win over their fierce rivals which would book their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2016.
Decision made over Arsenal’s proposed £24m deal for playmaker
Szczesny spent last season on loan at AS Roma and he’s expressed his desire to remain in Italy, but he’ll return to Arsenal after the European Championships unless a deal can be agreed with the Serie A outfit.
