Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Man City clash

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost ahead of this weekend’s clash with Manchester City after Santi Cazorla declared himself fully fit and available for selection.

Cazorla has been on the sidelines for over five months after suffering knee ligament damage during our 1-1 draw at Norwich City back in November and the midfielder’s proposed comeback in February was delayed after he suffered an Achilles injury in training.

However, Santi resumed full training last month and made his first appearance of 2016 after getting 60 minutes under his belt for the under-21’s on Tuesday night, with the 31-year-old grabbing an assist during a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Cazorla has now confirmed that he’s ready to return for the first team against Manchester City this weekend and help the club push for a top two finish during the final two games of the season.

“I’m very happy to be back. It is a great feeling after five months. I need to keep up the hard work with my team-mates in the first team and I want to play the last two games.

“I would like to help the first team at the weekend against Manchester City. [Arsène Wenger] has the decision, but I will try to play at the weekend. We need to win the last two games as we want to finish in the top four.

“We need to fight until the end to try to get second place. If we win the last two games, we can do that. I want to help my team-mates.”

Cazorla’s return is a major boost as he’s been sorely missed over the last five months. I said when he got injured back in November that his absence would be a real blow to our title hopes and unfortunately that turned out to be the case.

I’m fully of the opinion that had Cazorla, and to a certain extent Coquelin, not got injured we’d still be fighting it out with Leicester City for the title.

Sadly, we’re now in a familiar battle for the top four positions but hopefully we can get a positive result at City on Sunday and maybe sneak second ahead of Tottenham.
