Arsenal star linked with surprise late move – reports

The Express are a carrying a report which claims Southampton are making a last ditch move to sign Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on loan until the end of the season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain came through the youth ranks at St Mary’s before joining Arsenal in 2011 in a deal that could end up being worth £15m including add ons.

The 22-year-old has bags of talent and has shown plenty of promise during his time at the club but he’s yet to establish himself as a first team regular in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.

Alexis Sanchez is a certain starter and the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell are also ahead of him in the pecking order for the wide roles, while he’s got plenty of competition for the central midfield spots as well.

With the 2016 European Championships coming up, it looks like Southampton have tried to tempt The Ox with regular first team football with the Express claiming the South Coast club have asked to take Oxlade-Chamberlain on loan until the end of the season.

The newspaper doesn’t indicate what Arsenal’s response was to the request, however, I can make a pretty solid guess; thanks, but no thanks!

There is no chance Arsene would let Oxlade-Chamberlain leave on deadline day. He may not be a first team regular but he’s still a vital part of the squad and someone who’ll get plenty of minutes during the second half of the season.

To let him go on loan would be negligible when we’ve got so many games coming up and a Premier League title to win, so Southampton can forget about it.
