Arsenal Charged By FA For £16m Signing Of Chambers

Arsenal have been charged by the Football Association for allegedly breaching The FA’s Football Agents Regulations during the signing of Calum Chambers, it has been announced this afternoon.

We signed Chambers in a fairly straight-forward £16m deal from Southampton last summer but news soon emerged that there may have been some wrongdoing with regards to the transfer.

The FA have now announced that they’ve charged Arsenal and authorised agent Alan Middleton for their part in the Chambers deal.

A statement on theFA.com read:

Arsenal have been charged for allegedly breaching The FA’s Football Agents Regulations.

The charge is in relation to the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton to Arsenal on 26 July 2014.

Authorised agent Alan Middleton has also been charged for allegedly breaching The FA’s Football Agents Regulations in relation to the same transfer.

Mr Middleton has until 17 June 2015 to respond to the charge.

Arsenal have until 26 June 2015 after they requested more time to respond to the charge.

It’s not clear at this time exactly what Arsenal have supposedly done to breach the rules, but I’m sure all will become clear in time.

Chambers enjoyed an excellent start to life at the Emirates and was a regular during the first half of the season while Mathieu Debuchy was out injured, but he featured far less during the second half of the campaign when Hector Bellerin broke through.
