Arsenal plot ambitious swoop to sign Rio Ngumoha
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch an ambitious swoop to sign Liverpool forward Rio Ngumoha, as per former Sun Sport journalist Alan Nixon.
After coming through Chelsea’s youth system, the 18-year-old joined the Reds a couple of years ago. He made his first team debut last year before featuring as a rotational option in recent times.
Last season, he made three goal contributions in 29 appearances across all competitions. The youngster has played four matches thus far this term, with two coming as a starter.
Now, Nixon (via ESPN) states that Ngumoha might consider leaving Liverpool if he fails to establish himself as a regular starter this campaign.
Arsenal are keeping a close eye on his situation at Anfield and are planning to make a move if he becomes available. The forward is valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt and has entered the final two years of his current contract.
Therefore, the Merseyside might be open to cashing-in on him next summer to avoid losing him for free should they fail to agree on a fresh term with him over the coming months.
Ngumoha is a right-footed left-winger by trait but can provide cover on the opposite side if needed. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also works hard without possession.
Ngumoha to Arsenal
After letting Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli leave this summer, Arsenal decided to strengthen the left flank by purchasing only Christos Tzolis.
So, Mikel Arteta has used Eberechi Eze on the left flank this season to support the former Club Brugge star. However, the Englishman is more comfortable centrally.
As a result, it appears Arsenal have started exploring options to strengthen the left-wing next year. Ngumoha is a highly talented forward and possesses the potential to reach the top.
Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
Meanwhile, following a hard-fought victory over Sunderland in the Premier League, Arsenal are set to face Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
