Predicted Arsenal line-up vs Atletico Madrid
Following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League, Arsenal are set to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
The tie is nicely poised at the moment, with the first leg finishing 1-1. On the other hand, Mikel Arteta’s side are currently at the top of the Premier League table with 76 points from 35 matches.
Following Manchester City’s 3-3 draw over Everton last night, the North London club are clear favourites to win the league this season. They need to win their remaining three games to overcome more than two decades of title drought.
Team news
Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino are likely to remain sidelined due to their respective injury problems. Martin Odegaard featured in the first leg vs Los Rojiblancos but wasn’t in the matchday squad this weekend owing to a minor issue. Thankfully, he is ready to be involved tonight.
On the other hand, Kai Havertz has been out since picking up an issue against Newcastle United last month, but he should be fit enough to feature in this crucial encounter.
Predicted line-up
David Raya is set to keep hold of his place in goal, while William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should be the centre-back pairing for the North London club.
Ben White is likely to be the right back amid Timber’s absence, while Riccardo Calafiori might be on the opposite side. So, Cristhian Mosquera, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Piero Hincapié would have to make do with a place on the bench.
Martin Zubimendi was rested vs Fulham, but he should be recalled and is set to start in the deep-lying playmaker position tonight, with Declan Rice likely to be alongside the Spaniard in midfield.
Eberechi Eze could continue in the creative midfield position. In that case, Odegaard and Christian Norgaard would be among the substitutes.
After displaying impressive performance last weekend, Bukayo Saka is expected to keep hold of his place on the right flank, and Leandro Trossard might be on the opposite wing.
Viktor Gyokeres is expected to lead the line for Arsenal tonight after scoring a brace vs Fulham. So, Gabriel Jesus, Havertz, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli may feature as substitutes if needed.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Atletico Madrid
Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice, Eze; Saka, Gyokeres, Trossard
