Arsenal are set to face Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

The Gunners won the first leg at Jose Alvalade Stadium courtesy of Kai Havertz’s late winner, but Mikel Arteta’s side displayed an average performance, and David Raya was the Man of the Match.

Arsenal will be coming into this game off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League. As a result, Arteta’s side have found themselves under significant pressure.

On the other hand, Sporting have been displaying impressive performances this season, mounting a title charge in Liga Portugal. They have lost only one out of the last five matches across all competitions.

Team news

Mikel Merino is set to remain sidelined due to his injury. After sustaining an injury on international duty for Ecuador, Piero Hincapié was sidelined vs Southampton and Sporting but was among the substitutes last weekend. So, he should be ready to be involved tonight.

Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber have been out injured, but one of them might be available to be involved tonight. Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori were unavailable last weekend, and there are question marks over their availability. Declan Rice wasn’t pictured in training ahead of this fixture, but he should be fit enough to start.

Predicted line-up

Raya is likely to keep hold of his place in goal, while William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should be the centre-back pairing for the North London club.

Ben White is expected to be the right-back, and Hincapié might be on the opposite side. In that case, Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis-Skelly would have to make do with a place on the bench.

Martin Zubimendi and Rice are set to be the double midfield pivot for Arsenal, while Eberechi Eze should return to the starting line-up and commence in the CAM position.

Noni Madueke might be on the right flank if Saka can’t feature, while Leandro Trossard is expected to be on the opposite side ahead of Gabriel Martinelli. Viktor Gyokeres is set to lead the line for Arteta’s side; therefore, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz may feature as substitutes if needed.
