Arsenal ‘top contender’ to sign Juventus’ Khephren Thuram
Arsenal are reportedly one of the ‘top contenders’ to sign Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram, as per Italian outlet Tutto Juve.
The Gunners started the season with the ambition of finally becoming the Premier League champions this term, but they endured an inconsistent start. As a result, they found themselves five points behind Liverpool after the first five games, with the Reds winning all of their matches.
However, things have turned completely on their head following the Merseyside club’s three consecutive league defeats. At the moment, Arsenal are four points ahead of Arne Slot’s side and are three points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently the favourite to become the English champions this season.
Meanwhile, the North London club have also been keeping an eye on the market to reinforce the squad further despite already building a strong team.
Tutto Juve report that Arsenal are contemplating purchasing a new midfielder despite recently signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, and have identified Thuram as a serious option.
The Gunners have started monitoring his development closely before making a potential swoop. However, Arteta’s side aren’t the only club in this race as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on him.
Thuram to Arsenal
The report claim that Chelsea and Arsenal are the ‘top contenders’ to sign him next year. However, Juventus consider him unsaleable, having bought him last year. He is valued at around £35m, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Juventus have made several failed acquisitions in recent years, but Thuram has turned out to be a successful one. He is 6ft 3in tall and is a box-to-box midfielder. The Frenchman is the son of the World Cup winner Lilian Thuram and the younger brother of Marcus Thuram, who plays for Inter Milan.
The 24-year-old is a technically sound, dynamic midfielder and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium next year.
