Arsenal interested in signing Chelsea’s Andrey Santos
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, as per Caught Offside.
After signing for the Blues from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in January 2023, the 20-year-old hasn’t played a single minute for the West London club yet.
He was loaned out to Nottingham Forest last season, but the youngster struggled to find regular game time at the City Ground. So he was recalled and sent out on loan to Strasbourg, who are Chelsea’s sister club, in midseason.
Santos has been on a season-long loan to the French side once again this campaign to play regularly and develop his career. He has enjoyed a stellar campaign, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in all competitions.
Moreover, he has been guiding his side to mount a top-four charge in Ligue 1, sitting only two points behind fourth-placed LOSC Lille with four games left.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Santos doesn’t want to go back to Chelsea, and Arsenal are interested in signing him by taking advantage of that after being impressed by his recent eye-catching displays.
Santos to Arsenal
Chelsea might not want to sell the Brazilian to a rival, but they previously did business with the Gunners. They may accept a fee of at least £38m to sell him.
However, the report say purchasing Santos won’t be straightforward as Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are also plotting a swoop for him.
Santos has been displaying his best at Stade de la Meinau as a defensive midfielder but can also play in the box-to-box role.
Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s futures remain uncertain as their respective contracts will expire at the end of this season. But, it has recently been reported that Arsenal want to extend the Ghanaian’s deal but are ready to allow the Italian to leave for free.
Therefore, as a potential replacement for the former Chelsea star, Arsenal are seemingly planning to hire another Chelsea midfielder.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the engine room.
