Arsenal plot audacious swoop to sign Darwin Nunez

Arsenal are reportedly considering making an audacious swoop to sign Liverpool star Darwin Nunez late in this transfer window, as per The Sun.
It has widely been reported that the Gunners are keen on signing a new striker this summer. A host of options have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks but they haven’t opted to make a move for anyone yet.
However, with Eddie Nketiah on the verge of leaving the club to join Crystal Palace, The Sun claims that Arsenal are keen on signing a new centre-forward and have expressed their interest in Nunez.
The report says the Gunners hold a long-term interest in the Uruguayan as they were eyeing a swoop for him a couple of years ago before his move to Anfield but they could now look to sign him this summer.
The South American has had a topsy-turvy time at Liverpool in recent years as although he has showcased glimpses of his qualities at times in the Premier League, he has been criticised heavily for lack of composure in front of the goal – which is an essential attribute for any top-class striker.
Nunez to Arsenal
Nunez started both games of this season on the bench, and he didn’t even feature in the opening Premier League encounter against Ipswich Town. So, it seems Arne Slot hasn’t been impressed by the Uruguayan.
Mikel Arteta has showcased his ability to revive careers as he has done with Kai Havertz – who struggled at Chelsea but has now become a key player at the Emirates Stadium. The Spanish boss is seemingly backing himself to do the same with Nunez so he is willing to sign the Uruguayan.
However, Nunez – valued at around £59m by Transfermarkt – still has four years left in his current contract and Liverpool wouldn’t allow their record signing to join a direct rival for cheap. Therefore, it is expected that the North London club will have to splash big money to secure his signature.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually formalise their interest in signing Nunez before Friday’s deadline to reinforce the attacking department.
