Former midfielder Ray Parlour has claimed that Alexander Isak would take Arsenal forward if they purchase him this summer.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are prioritising strengthening their frontline by signing a prolific goal-scorer ahead of next season. Numerous names have already emerged as serious targets with Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Ivan Toney being among them, but Isak is reportedly on their radar as well.

Newcastle United’s summer budget has reportedly been restricted due to FFP regulations so they need to cash-in on one of their star men to raise funds in order to sign some new faces in the off-season.

So, it has been reported that the Magpies could reluctantly sell Isak this summer if they receive an offer of around £100m from his potential suitors such as the North London club.

Now, speaking on the Football FanCast website, Parlour has said that he likes Isak and the Swedish international will suit Arsenal’s fluid style of football. So, the forward could be a shrewd signing for Mikel Arteta’s side if they purchase him.

Arsenal told to sign Isak

The former midfielder further claims that Newcastle might not want to sell their star man but if they are forced to sell and Arsenal sign him by taking advantage of that situation then he would take the Emirates club forward.

Parlour said:

“Isak is a player I like a lot. Isak is the type of player who can do well in this Arsenal team. He will suit Arsenal’s fluid style of play and can do well in this team with the likes of Saka, Martinelli, Havertz, Trossard and Odegaard supporting him. It’s important to have quality strikers as we had in our era with Wiltord, Kanu, Henry and Bergkamp.

“However, Newcastle will not want to lose their top striker. Fee wise, he will be similar to Rice’s fee, so if Newcastle are forced to sell, then yes he would take Arsenal forward.”

After moving to St James’ Park from Real Sociedad ahead of last campaign, the 24-year-old has showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the Premier League this season, scoring 20 goals and registering a solitary assist in 27 appearances.

So, Isak is a Premier League proven star and therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him in the upcoming window to reinforce their frontline.
