Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi this summer, as per the transfer journalist Dean Jones.

After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Atletico Madrid back in 2020, Thomas Partey has established himself as a regular starter in Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven over the last few years.

However, it has been suggested that the Gunners have decided to cash-in on the African this summer after getting frustrated with his consistent injury problems. So, the North London club are reportedly planning to sign a new midfielder ahead of next season as a potential replacement for the Ghanaian.

Numerous names have been mentioned as serious targets with Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana and Bruno Guimaraes being among them, but Zubimendi is reportedly on their radar as well.

Speaking on Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has reported that Arsenal have identified the Real Sociedad star as the primary target to reinforce their engine room this summer. However, the journalist says that Zubimendi is comfortable at his boyhood club and has no intention of leaving.

Zubimendi to Arsenal

Jones also states that Arsenal are trying to persuade the midfielder to move to the Premier League and the Emirates club are hoping Arteta will be able to convince him to join the club as the Spaniard is a former La Real star and from San Sebastian.

When asked whether Zubimendi is at the ‘top of that pile’ in Arsenal’s wish-list, Jones said:

“Yeah, he’s taking some persuading. The only thing Arsenal are hoping right now, he’s at Real Sociedad, Mikel Arteta used to play for Real Sociedad. He’s from San Sebastian, they’re hoping he can convince him. I don’t think he has a massive appetite to come to the Premier League. He’s pretty chilled with his life and how things are going.”

It has been suggested that Zubimendi has a release clause worth around £51m included in his current contract so the North London club will have to splash a big fee to lure the Spaniard to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Zubimendi is a highly talented midfielder – who has already showcased his qualities in a top league like La Liga. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they can eventually secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
