Arsenal register interest in signing Real Madrid star Mendy

By on April 22, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy this summer, as per the French outlet L’Equipe.

After a few disappointing results, the Gunners have returned to winning ways by defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday. As a result, they have regained their spot at the top of the Premier League table with 74 points from 33 games.

Five more games are still to play for Mikel Arteta’s side and they will have to win all of those encounters to keep their hopes of winning the league title this term alive. Manchester City have their fate of winning the league in their hands cause if they can win their remaining six games then they will be crowned champions.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will have to focus on themselves and they will now be concentrating on the next game against Chelsea. Amid this situation, the North London club have already started planning their transfer businesses ahead of next season.

It has been suggested that Arteta’s side could be aiming to purchase a new left-back to create competition for Oleksandr Zinchenko with Jakub Kiwior heavily linked with a move away from the club in recent times.

Mendy to Arsenal

According to the report by L’Equipe, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Mendy and they could make a concrete approach to acquire his service in the off-season.

However, the report claims that Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in signing him so the Emirates club will have to move quickly to beat their rivals in this race.

Fabrizio Romano has recently reported that Real Madrid are keen on signing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich and it doesn’t look likely that Los Blancos will go with Fran Garcia, Mendy and Davies next season. So, they could cash-in on one of their current options and Mendy could be shown the exit door.

Mendy – valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt – is a talented player and could be a solid acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, although the Frenchman is excellent in defensive contributions, he isn’t most comfortable with the ball at his feet.

So, he might not be the ideal option to play in Arteta’s possession-based system and therefore, Arsenal could be better off exploring other options to reinforce their left-back position this summer.
