Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong this summer, as per Football Insider.

After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have been mounting a title charge once again this season. They are currently second in the table, sitting only two points behind Liverpool.

In the meantime, it has been suggested that the North London club have already started planning to reinforce the squad in the upcoming window to help Mikel Arteta achieve success in the next campaign.

The Spanish boss is reportedly prioritising strengthening the front by signing a new striker, while bolstering the engine room by purchasing a new midfielder is on his wish-list as well. But, it seems the North London club also want to acquire the service of a new right-back to reinforce the backline.

According to the report by Football Insider, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Frimpong and they could make a swoop in the upcoming window.

The report further claims that the Netherlands international has a £35m release clause included in his current contract and the Gunners feel the fee is a ‘bargain’ for a player of his qualities.

However, Football Insider states that Liverpool and Manchester United are also keen on signing Frimpong so the North London club are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.

Frimpong has been enjoying a productive campaign this term, scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists in 35 appearances in all competitions.

The Dutchman has already showcased his qualities in the Bundesliga in recent times and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be hoping to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he joins the club this summer.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire the 23-year-old’s service in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their defensive department.

Meanwhile, following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Luton Town in the Premier League, Arsenal will travel to AMEX Stadium to take on Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend before facing off Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final next week. So, a couple of tough fixtures lie ahead for Arteta’s side.
