Arsenal face PSG challenge in summer swoop for Gyokeres
According to A Bola, Arsenal may have to compete with Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germain to sign Sporting Lisbon hitman Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
Gyokeres is a striker who has truly blown football fans away with his prowess in Sporting Lisbon’s attack this season. In 39 games, the Swede has an impressive 36 goals and 14 assists, making him one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe.
A number of Premier League clubs have expressed interest in him, but Football Transfers reporting that Arsenal are the most serious suitor, having identified the 25-year-old as their top summer striker target.
Arsenal are looking to sign a top striker to provide Mikel Arteta’s project with a consistent supply of goals as they look to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts.
Gyokeres may be a perfect fit for the Gunners, not just because of his impressive stats but also because they’ve been watching him for a while and he’s reportedly convinced them to make him their top target.
PSG eye Gyokeres
Initially, the Gunners’ appeared to be in pole position to sign the former champion striker – as long as they could afford to activate the striker’s £86 million release clause. However, Arsenal now face stiff competition as A Bola claims that PSG have now joined the race for Gyokeres this summer.
The Ligue 1 side are planning for life without Kylian Mbappe; they want to replace the Frenchman with a quality striker. According to A Bola, the French side has grown fond of Gyokeres and sees him as a viable replacement for their departing No. 7. They would love to sign Victor Osimhen, but they may end up considering his £112 million release clause too high, with an in-form Gyokeres available for £86 million.
PSG’s financial muscles and their desperation to replace Mbappe could be terrible for Arsenal. The positive news is that the Portuguese source suggests that PSG are yet to make a firm decision on which striker to target, so Arsenal should act quickly if they want to sign Gyokeres before the Ligue 1 champions make their move.
