Emmanuel Petit, as reported by Football London, believes Mikel Arteta ought to consider bringing Marcus Rashford to Arsenal. Petit believes the Manchester United forward may prosper under the Spaniard at the Emirates.

Rashford hit peak form in 2022–23, scoring 30 goals in 56 games—his finest season to date. And last season, rumors about his future arose as a result of his unclear contract situation. Arsenal were among the clubs linked with a move last year but the 26-year-old ended the speculation after signing a new 5-year deal last summer.

Many Man Utd fans expected Rashford to maintain his spectacular performances from last season into this campaign, but that hasn’t been the case. The Englishman has struggled to find consistency amid reports he’s having problems in his private life.

This has led to speculation Rashford could be on the move in the summer and PSG have been linked with a move. The French giants have been keeping tabs on the United No. 10 ever since they made an attempt to sign him in 2022. It appears their desire never faded, as Goal reports that they consider him as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

Rashford to Arsenal

As Premier League fans speculate about Rashford potentially moving to PSG, Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal should not let it happen.

The Arsenal icon believes that if Rashford can resolve his off-field issues, Arsenal should go for him. He argues the forward might be an ‘excellent’ signing for Arteta’s project.

“Marcus Rashford could be an excellent option for Arsenal, definitely,” the former midfielder said (via football.london).

“My only question mark would be on his mind and where he is mentally. Last season, he played so well for weeks and weeks but this season it hasn’t been the same Marcus Rashford.

“I think he’s very sensitive and he must find a balance between his professional and private life – if he finds the balance he will be great again.

“We all know his qualities and skills, but I’m wondering mentally if he can reach the standards of where he should be. He needs help to perform more often and he needs serenity from his agents.

“I heard from France that he’s been through difficult times privately. I was going through the same thing as a player, I could never be in good form if I wasn’t right in my private life.”

With 7 goals and 5 assists in 34 appearances, it’s fair to say that Rashford isn’t at his best this season.

However, as Petit points out, the quality of the England international is undeniable. Arteta is reportedly in the market for a winger and a new striker, and Rashford can play anywhere across the front line. His versatility would be a useful asset at Arsenal as he’s provide competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka while also giving Arteta another option up front.

With a proper manager, such as Arteta, and the appropriate environment, Rashford could realize his full potential. According to Transfermarkt, Rashford is valued at around £60m, but it remains to be seen how much United would want from a direct rival such as Arsenal.
