Arsenal plotting swoop to sign Sebastian Szymanski

By on February 29, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly contemplating making a summer swoop to sign Fenerbahce star Sebastian Szymanski, as per the Turkish outlet Sabah.

The Gunners are reportedly set to sign a new midfielder this summer as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has struggled with injury problems in recent years.

Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana and Martin Zubimendi have all been suggested as the primary targets for the North London club. But, Mikel Arteta’s side will have to splash big money to sign any of those players during the off-season.

So, it appears Arsenal have started to explore cheaper alternative options in-case they miss out on signing their key targets with Szymanski now emerging as a serious option.

According to the report by Sabah, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing the 24-year-old and they could make a concrete approach to acquire his signature this summer.

Szymanski to Arsenal

However, the report claims that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen are all keen on purchasing him as well. So, Arsenal are set to face tough competition in getting any potential deal done for him.

Sabah also states that having seen growing interest in Szymanski, Fenerbahce have opted to raise their asking price from £17m to £21m. But, the valuation shouldn’t be an issue for the North London club.

With Arsenal reportedly set to prioritise bolstering their frontline by signing a prolific striker, a big chunk of the Gunners’ transfer budget is likely to be invested in doing that. So, Arteta’s side could be forced to explore cheaper options to bolster the midfield department this summer.

Szymanski is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, he hasn’t showcased his qualities at the highest level yet so there is a question mark whether he would be able to help the Emirates club achieve their lofty ambitions.

Therefore, I think Arsenal would be better off going all-out to sign any of their primary targets rather than signing Szymanski this summer. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing Szymanski to reinforce their engine room.
