Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey next summer, as per a recent report.

Having joined the North London club back in 2020, Partey managed to establish himself as a key member of Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven. He played a pivotal role in helping the Gunners mount a title charge last term before being pipped to the post by Manchester City.

The African’s persistent fitness problems forced Arteta to sign Declan Rice last summer as the 30-year-old’s injury absence was thought to be one of the main issues behind Arsenal’s downfall in the title race last season during the final hurdle.

Things have gotten even worse for the former Atletico Madrid star this campaign as he has been out injured with a muscle problem since last October. Therefore, it appears Arteta has realised that Partey can’t be trusted any more and he needs to be replaced.

According to a recent report(via Metro), Arsenal have decided to offload Partey next summer and they are lining up Zubimendi as a potential replacement for the Ghanaian.

Zubimendi to Arsenal

The report further claims that Zubimendi has a £51m release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal will have to spend big to lure the Spaniard to the Emirates Stadium this year.

However, the report states that securing Zubimendi’s signature won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also plotting a swoop for him.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Real Sociedad star over the last few transfer windows, however, they haven’t opted to make a concrete approach to secure his signature yet. But, things could be different in the upcoming summer window.

Zubimendi is a deep-lying playmaker, he is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

The 25-year-old is a talented player and could be an ideal replacement for Partey if Arsenal secure his signature in the upcoming summer window.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the midfielder to reinforce their engine room.
