Arsenal submit proposal to sign Getafe star Borja Mayoral
Arsenal have reportedly submitted an opening proposal to sign Getafe star Borja Mayoral in this transfer window, as per The Sun.
The Gunners have seemingly been exploring the possibility of strengthening their frontline by signing a new striker this month. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks with Ivan Toney being among them.
However, Brentford reportedly want at least £100m to let their star man and it has been suggested that the North London club can’t spend big in January due to FFP regulations.
So, it appears after giving up on their hopes of signing Toney, Mikel Arteta’s side have started to explore cheaper alternative options with Mayoral now emerging as a key target.
According to the report by The Sun, Arsenal have been monitoring Mayoral’s recent performances closely and after being impressed by his displays, they have decided to submit an opening offer of around £22m to sign the Spaniard.

But, the report further claims that Getafe have rejected the bid as they don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £39m. So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal return with an improved offer over the coming days.
The Sun states that Fulham are also eyeing a swoop for him so the North London club are set to face tough competition from their city rivals in getting any potential deal done for the forward.
After struggling to find regular game-time at Real Madrid, Mayoral was sent out on loan to different clubs to play regular first-team football and develop his career.
The 26-year-old has been starting to flourish in his career in recent times after joining Getafe during the summer of 2022. The forward has been enjoying a productive campaign in La Liga this term, scoring 12 goals and registering a solitary assist in 19 appearances.
Mayoral has showcased glimpses of his talent in the Spanish top-flight this term and the North Londoners will be hoping that the striker will be able to replicate the same performance at the Emirates Stadium if he were to join the club.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to purchase Mayoral in this winter window to bolster their attacking department.
