Arsenal receive boost in pursuit of Brentford star Toney

By on December 19, 2023

Arsenal have received a big boost in pursuit of Brentford star Ivan Toney as the striker is willing to move to the Emirates Stadium in January, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have seemingly been planning to sign a new prolific striker in January to strengthen the forward department and continue their title charge this season.

Dusan Vlahovic, Santiago Giménez and Victor Osimhen have all been mentioned as serious targets for the North London club, but Toney is reportedly their primary option.

However, it has been suggested that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also planning to sign the Brentford star to reinforce their attacking department next year. So, Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their city rivals in getting any potential deal done for Toney.

However, speaking to Caught Offside, Romano has reported that the striker is willing to move to the Emirates Stadium in January and Arsenal are aware of the striker’s desire. So this is a huge boost for the North London club to sign him by beating their rivals.

Toney to Arsenal

However, the journalist says that Brentford want a big fee to sell Toney in January but the Gunners can’t afford to spend big in the winter window having splashed over £200m last summer. So, it won’t be easy for Arteta’s side to purchase Toney next month if they opt to formalise their interest.

Romano said:

“Ivan Toney is another player linked with Chelsea, but also with Arsenal. It’s not an easy deal because Brentford want important money or else they are more than happy to keep the player until the end of the season.

“I reported yesterday that Toney would be interested in joining Arsenal. Of course Arsenal are aware of Ivan Toney’s stance. It’s not about him telling Arsenal that he wants to join them, but of course they know the player would like to join.

“But there’s still the price tag issue as we said many times. Also, Toney has always very respectful to Brentford so it depends on the clubs reaching an agreement. It looks difficult for Arsenal because of Financial Fair Play, and of course they have David Raya on loan from Brentford, which could be another complication.”

Toney – valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt – has been suspended over the last few months after breaching the betting rules, but he is set to return to action next month. So, it remains to be seen whether he can perform at his best once again after a long lay-off.

Nevertheless, Toney is a Premier League proven striker so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually sign him should they opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature in January.
