Former Premier League forward turned manager Mark Hughes has pointed out the issue that could prevent Arsenal from winning the title this season.

After narrowly missing out on winning the league title last term, the Gunners opted to spend big in the summer to reinforce their squad in order to challenge on all fronts this season.

The North London club have enjoyed a stellar campaign so far this term, accumulating 36 points from 15 games and sitting five points ahead of Liverpool at the top of the league.

So, Arsenal have been showing signs that they may win the title this term. However, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Hughes has claimed that although Mikel Arteta’s side have had a promising start this season, they lack a prolific goal-scorer like Erling Haaland in their squad and that could be an issue for them from lifting the title.

The former striker further says that Gabriel Jesus is a talented player and can chip-in with some important goals. However, it is not sure whether he has the quality to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions.

Ex-PL star points out Arsenal’s issue

Hughes said:

“You look at Arsenal and they don’t have a striker who’ll score 20/25 goals a year that City have with Haaland. Jesus, I love the way he plays, and he’s key to the patterns Arsenal weave. Will the fact he’s a 10/15 goal a season be the difference? We’ll have to wait and see.”

Arsenal’s strikers, Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, haven’t scored many goals in the Premier League this season. However, the Gunners have shared the burden of scoring across their squad and are currently the second-highest scorer in the league.

So, the North London club will be hoping that other players will continue scoring goals if the strikers keep on finding it difficult to finish off chances.

Meanwhile, following a hard-fought victory over Luton Town last night, Arsenal will travel to Villa Park to face off against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday. Unai Emery’s side have displayed eye-catching performances this season so it won’t be easy for the Gunners to come away with all three points from this fixture.
