Arsenal are reportedly plotting a swoop for Juventus star Adrien Rabiot in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.

After moving to the Allianz Stadium back in 2019 as a free agent, the 28-year-old has managed to establish himself as an integral part of the Bianconeri’s first eleven over the last few years, helping his side win a Serie A title and a couple of domestic cup competitions.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Stadium this summer as his contract was about to end. Several clubs expressed their interest in signing him, but the Frenchman eventually opted to stay at the Old Lady of Turin by extending his deal for one year.

So, the midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this season and speculation surrounding his future starts to emerge ahead of the January window.

According to the report by Calciomercato, Juventus have opened talks with the player’s representatives regarding the contract extension. However, the report claims that Arsenal have already expressed their interest in signing Rabiot in a cut-price deal in January.

But, Calciomercato states that Newcastle United are also keen on securing Rabiot’s signature so the Gunners are set to face tough competition from the Magpies in getting any potential deal done for the Frenchman.

After letting Granit Xhaka leave the club, Arsenal have opted to sign Kai Havertz in the recently concluded summer window to replace the Swiss. But, the move hasn’t panned out for the North London club yet, so it appears they are now planning to sign a new box-to-box midfielder to strengthen their engine room.

Rabiot – valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt – is a versatile player as he can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He is dynamic, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, works extremely hard without possession and also can chip-in with some important goals.

So, the 28-year-old possesses the necessary qualities to play in Mikel Arteta’s system, therefore, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing him to bolster their engine room in the upcoming window.
