Pundit backs Arsenal to sign Evan Ferguson this summer

By on September 5, 2023

Ex-Gunner turned pundit Ian Wright has backed Arsenal to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Evan Ferguson to bolster their frontline.

It has recently been reported that the North London club are planning to make a swoop for an elite-level striker next summer and have identified the 18-year-old as a serious target.

The report further stated that the Seagulls value their star man for a fee of around £100m so the Gunners will have to break the bank to secure his signature.

However, other English clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs are also reportedly keen on acquiring his service so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from the Premier League rivals in getting any potential deal done for the highly-rated youngster.

Now, speaking on  The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright has stated that Ferguson is an extremely talented player and possesses the necessary qualities to play for any top six English teams. So, he would be a great signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature.

The pundit further claims that Brighton are always open to letting their star man leave if their valuation is met so the Gunners can acquire his service if they opt to formalise their interest in the upcoming transfer window.

Wright said:

“When you look at him, the way he plays, his appreciation for the game, his movement and finishing both feet, good in the air and good pace.

“He has all the attributes at 18. Very mature in the way he plays. All he has to do is keep doing what he is doing and they are going to start talking about him in million terms because that striker is not allowed. You can’t find that guy to come around, who is 18, in the Premier League and at the perfect club to continue to grow.

“They aren’t going to be able to hold onto that guy if he carries on doing what he is doing. He is too good. So intelligent – for 18, it’s really, really composed finishing.

“He is fearless at 18. Can you imagine being in the Premier League at 18? You’re not under the pressure you would be under like Garnacho would be under at Manchester United – you watch the way he plays, all the top teams, the top six teams. He can play in any of those teams. We know Brighton, at some stage, they will sell him.”

Ferguson has already showcased glimpses of his talent during a very short spell in the Premier League and it is apparent that he possesses the potential to become a world-class striker going forward. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him in the upcoming transfer window.

Its his first recognized season and he has not had the rough treatment marking from top defenders, so early days. If he could get through the season without a knock, he may be able to resemble Harry Kane or Alan Shearer in style, but time will tell. See how he plays aganst Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City. 2 of the 3 goals he scored the weekend was down to luck really.
