Arsenal open talks to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Arsenal have reportedly held initial talks to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen to bolster their frontline, as per Football Transfers.
After moving to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona back in 2020, the 24-year-old has now established himself as one of the best strikers in the world.
The Nigerian enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Azzurri last term, scoring 31 goals and registering four assists in 39 appearances in all competitions, helping his side win the Scudetto for the first time in more than three decades.
After displaying impressive performances for Napoli in recent times, the striker has attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Chelsea, but it seems Arsenal are also keen on acquiring his service.
According to the report by Football Transfers, Arsenal are planning to sign a world-class striker next summer and have identified Osimhen as a serious target.
Osimhen to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that the Gunners’ sporting director Edu Gasper has already held initial talks with Napoli ahead of a potential move after getting encouragement from the player’s representative.
Football Transfers also states that Osimhen is keen on taking the next step in his career so he is not willing to sign an extension with Rudi Garcia’s side.
So, if the striker doesn’t commit his long-term future with Napoli then they would be forced to sell him next summer in fear of losing him for free as his existing deal will expire in June 2025.
Napoli have demanded a fee of around £150m to cash-in on him this summer but they will be forced to lower their valuation next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension. So, it is going to be interesting to see how much Napoli will ask to sell their star man – valued at around £103m by Transfermarkt – at the end of this season should Arsenal formalise their interest.
Osimhen is quick, strong, brilliant in the air, possesses the poacher instinct inside the box, can finish off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession. So he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium next summer to strengthen their frontline.
