Arsenal could look to sign Timothy Castagne this summer
Arsenal could reportedly make a move for Leicester City star Timothy Castagne in this transfer window, as per the Express.
The Gunners have already purchased Jurrien Timber from Ajax in a £38m deal to reinforce their defence. He looked solid during the pre-season and against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League’s opening fixture last weekend.
But, unfortunately, he sustained a knee issue in that encounter and it has been suggested that his injury is serious so, he is likely to be sidelined for several months.
Therefore, Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign a new defender before the window slams shut to beef up their backline. Aymeric Laporte has been mentioned as a potential target for the North London club but Castagne is now emerging as a serious option.
According to the report by the Express, Arsenal could attempt to purchase a low-cost defender after Timber’s injury and may look to sign Castagne before the end of this window.
Castagne to Arsenal
The report further claims that after relegation with Leicester, Castagne could be available for a cut-price deal and It has previously been reported that Leicester want a fee of around £13m for him. So, Arsenal can sign the fullback for an affordable fee if they opt to formalise their interest.
However, the Express states that purchasing the Belgian won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Fulham and Juventus are also plotting a swoop for him.
The report further says that along with Castagne, Kyle Walker-Peters is also on the Gunners’ radar. So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make a move for any of the duo to replace stricken Timber.
Arteta likes to sign versatile players who can be deployed in multiple positions and Castagne would be an ideal signing as he is a right-back by traits but can also play in the opposite side.
He is quick, technically sound, can play out from the back, is excellent going forward and also can contribute defensively as well. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they opt to secure his signature in this transfer window to bolster their backline.
