Arsenal showing ‘concrete interest’ in signing Barella

By on August 10, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly showing a ‘concrete interest’ in signing Inter Milan ace Nicolo Barella this summer, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.

Having narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League title to Manchester City last term, the Gunners have decided to spend big this summer to strengthen the squad in order to bridge the gap with Pep Guardiola’s side.

The North London club have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending over £200m. They are also on the verge of signing David Raya on an initial loan deal plus an option to make the move permanent next summer.

It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta doesn’t want to stop the transfer business just yet as he wants more reinforcements to challenge on all fronts from next season.

Bolstering the engine room by signing a second midfield option is seemingly on the Gunners boss’ agenda this summer. Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Barella now emerging as a potential option.

Barella to Arsenal

According to the report by Calciomercatoweb, Arsenal are seriously considering signing Barella this summer and are already preparing a bid to acquire his service.

The report further claims that the North London club wants to offer Folarin Balogun and Takehiro Tomiyasu in a part-exchange deal to sign Barella and Inter could be tempted to accept the proposal.

The Italian – valued at around £65m by Transfermarkt – still has three years left in his current contract so Inter are in a solid position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in.

It seems Arsenal are looking to offer two players to reduce the Serie A giants’ asking price and it is going to be interesting to see whether the Nerazzurri accept Arteta’s side’s offer if they submit it over the coming days.

Barella likes to be deployed in the box-to-box role. He is mobile, has the efficiency to link-up play from defence to attack, can finish off his chances, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.

The 26-year-old is an extremely talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to play for any elite team around the world. So, he would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature this summer.
