Arsenal ‘getting closer’ to signing David Raya this summer

Arsenal are reportedly ‘getting closer’ to signing Brentford star David Raya this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After purchasing Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber to bolster several areas of their squad, the Gunners have now decided to sign a new shot-stopper to reinforce their goalkeeping department.

Mikel Arteta has decided to let Matt Turner – who is on the verge of joining Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal – leave the club and has identified Raya as the primary target to replace the USA international.

Arsenal have already submitted an opening proposal of around £23m, including bonuses to sign Raya after agreeing on personal terms with him. It has been suggested that Brentford are likely to turn down the North London club’s opening bid but their proposal is very close to what the Bees are asking to let their star man leave.

Now, writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Arsenal remain in contact with Brentford and the Gunners are ‘getting closer’ to signing Raya. The journalist further claims that the Gunners are hoping to wrap up this deal over the coming days and the Spaniard is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Raya to Arsenal

Romano wrote:

“Negotiations continue between Arsenal and Brentford for David Raya. It’s getting closer, all parties hope to get it done in the next few days. Raya has been very clear: he wants to play for Arsenal.”

Raya has entered the final year of his current contract and has made it clear that he is not going to sign an extension with Thomas Frank’s side in order to take the next step in his career.

Brentford initially wanted £40m to sell their star man but it appears they have decided to soften their stance by lowering their asking price to let their star man fulfil his wish. So, it seems this has encouraged Arsenal to push forward with this deal and lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this window.

Raya has showcased his talent in the Premier League over the last couple of years so he would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his signature this summer.
