Arsenal contemplating swoop for Josip Sutalo this summer

By on August 1, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb star Josip Sutalo this summer, as per the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

The 23-year-old has burst onto the scene in recent times after displaying promising performances for the Croatian giants, helping his side in winning the league title in the last three consecutive campaigns.

It seems after being impressed by Sutalo’s recent performances, several clubs around Europe have registered their interest in signing him, including the Gunners.

According to the report by Corriere dello Sport(via PressReader), Arsenal are interested in Sutalo and Dinamo Zagreb want a fee of around £21m[€25m] to let their star man leave.

The report further claims that the Gunners have the financial resources to broker a deal for the Croatian so they could manage to acquire his service if they opt to formalise their interest.

Sutalo to Arsenal

However, Corriere dello Sport states that purchasing Sutalo won’t be straightforward for Mikel Arteta’s side as Fiorentina are also keen on acquiring his service in this transfer window.

Sutalo, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a highly talented defender. He is comfortable playing out from the back, has an eye for long-range passing, is good in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.

The Croatian possesses the necessary qualities to become a world-class defender going forward. So, he would be a great signing for Arsenal if they decide to purchase him in this transfer window.

However, the North London club already have several centre-back options at their disposal so it is looking unlikely that they will make a move for a new defender this summer having signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax unless they opt to cash-in on any of their options.

So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually decide to formalise their interest in signing Sutalo to beef up their backline in this transfer window.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Timber by spending over £200m this summer. It has been suggested that Arteta’s side won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are looking to add more firepower this summer.

The North London club are also reportedly planning to sign a new goalkeeper and have identified David Raya as a primary target. So, it is going to be interesting to see how much more money Arsenal spend in this transfer window to reinforce their squad.

Arsenals weakness is no target man, no pace at the back, no confident goal keeper, no real backup for Saka, no real backup for partey( assuming Rice is Xhaka’s box2box replacement). This defender doesnt match any of these priorities.
