Arsenal star Thomas Partey has reportedly returned to the pre-season in ‘very good shape’ and Mikel Arteta is ‘happy to continue’ with him next season, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After joining the Gunners back in 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a £43m deal, the 30-year-old has established himself as an integral part of Arteta’s system. However, his time at the Emirates Stadium has been hampered by several injury issues and as a consequence of that, the North London club have opted to spend big to sign Declan Rice.

It was previously reported that Arsenal were ready to cash-in on Partey this summer but, it appears the North London club have taken a U-turn and are now prepared to keep the former Atletico Madrid man at the club.

Speaking on the Here we go podcast, Romano has reported that Arsenal have been impressed by Partey’s ‘mentality’ and ‘approach’ as he has returned to the pre-season in a ‘very good shape’.

So, the journalist claims that Arteta is ‘happy to continue’ with Partey at the moment and the situation will only change if Arsenal receive a ‘big proposal’ this summer.

Partey set to stay

Romano said:

“The feeling is that it will only change with a big proposal, otherwise Arsenal are very happy to continue with Thomas Partey, I’m also told that he returned to pre-season in very good shape and a good mentality and Mikel Arteta is very happy with his approach.

“Arteta is very happy with the player and how he’s beginning this new season, so everything is under control with Arsenal and Thomas Partey.”

Partey is an excellent player and he would be a very good option to have for Arteta to rotate his squad in order to keep them fresh throughout the season.

Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League and there will be more competitive games next term so the North London club need proper squad depth to challenge on all fronts.

Arsenal enjoyed a stellar campaign last season so I think they shouldn’t make wholesale changes to their squad this summer. Therefore, it would be the right decision to keep Partey at the club having already sold Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen.

I would say the club have NOT done a u-turn. The media were simply completely wrong AGAIN.
