Aymeric Laporte would be a ‘nice fit’ for Arsenal
Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte would be a ‘nice fit’ for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature this summer, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.
After moving to the Etihad Stadium back in 2018, the 29-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the last few years, helping his side in winning multiple Premier League titles and several domestic cup competitions.
However, after recovering from an injury problem, the Spanish international struggled to find regular game-time in Man City’s historic treble-winning campaign last term.
So, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow and it has been suggested that he doesn’t want to stay at the Etihad Stadium if his situation doesn’t change next term.
It has also been reported that Man City are prepared to let their star man leave if he wishes to. So, it appears Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign the former Athletic Bilbao star this summer.
Laporte to Arsenal
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has said that Laporte is an extremely talented player and has proved his worth at the highest level over the last few years. So, he would be a ‘really good’ signing for Arsenal if they acquire his services.
But, the journalist claims that nothing has been advanced yet regarding this deal and ‘there’s some way to go before anything like this happens’.
Brown said:
“Laporte, going to Arsenal, I think that would be actually quite a nice fit. I think he would do a really good job for Arsenal. Joao Cancelo I have my doubts about, I’ve spoken about that before, but Laporte I think would fit quite nicely at Arsenal.
“It feels like he has the kind of profile that would slot in quite nicely alongside a couple of the different centre backs there at the club already. I do think he’s reliable, experienced, used to being a winner. That feels like a move that would be a really good one if Arsenal were able to pull it off. But I think there’s some way to go before anything like this happens.”
It has been suggested that Man City are ready to let their star man leave for as little as £26m so Arsenal could manage to sign the defender for an affordable price if they formalise their interest.
Laporte would be an excellent signing for Arteta’s side and he would certainly help Arsenal in achieving their lofty ambitions next season if the Spaniard moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, having already got Gabriel Magalhaes and Jakub Kiwior in the squad, there’s a question mark whether Arsenal really need to sign another left-footed centre-back this summer.
But, if an opportunity arises then it would be a wise decision to make an attempt to sign Laporte in this transfer window to beef up their backline as he is an excellent defender.
