Arsenal lining up swoop for Southampton star Lavia
Arsenal are reportedly planning a swoop for Southampton star Romeo Lavia after securing Declan Rice’s signature, as per The Times.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners have prioritised revamping their engine room this summer and have identified the West Ham United star as their primary target.
After putting in their best efforts over the last few weeks, the North London club are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign the Englishman for a British record £105m fee.
However, it appears Arsenal are planning to sign another midfield option before the start of next season as they have been linked with a few names in recent times with Lavia emerging as a serious option.
According to the report by The Times, Arsenal are interested in signing the Belgian international this summer and they could make a move for him after securing Rice’s signature.
Lavia to Arsenal
However, it has recently been suggested that acquiring the 19-year-old’s service won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Liverpool have now also joined the race and are keen on purchasing him.
It has been reported that having signed Lavia last summer, Southampton aren’t prepared to let their star man leave for cheap despite failing to stay up in the Premier League and are asking a fee of around £50m. So, Arsenal will have to spend big to sign him in this transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has recently suggested that although Arsenal are looking to sign the Southampton star this summer, they won’t make a move for him unless Thomas Partey leaves the club. Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to sell the Ghanaian over the coming weeks and purchase Lavia by beating Liverpool in this race.
The 19-year-old is strong, dynamic, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and also can contribute defensively as well.
The youngster is an extremely talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class midfielder going forward. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
