Pundit claims Arsenal signing ‘two players’ in Kai Havertz

By on June 22, 2023

Former striker turned pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Arsenal are about to sign ‘two players’ by acquiring Kai Havertz’s services.

After negotiating with Chelsea over the last few weeks, the Gunners have finally managed to reach an agreement with their London rivals for £60m in guaranteed fee plus £5m in add-ons to purchase the German international this summer.

However, although there is optimism among the Emirates faithful after signing the Chelsea man, questions have been raised about whether the German would be the right acquisition to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions as the 24-year-old has struggled to flourish at Stamford Bridge since making a big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2020.

However, speaking on ESPN FC Show, Fjortoft has brushed off these talks and said that Arsenal have made one of the ‘smartest signings’ of this transfer window by purchasing Havertz.

The pundit further states that the attacker can play in the box-to-box role, the number ten position and as a centre-forward as well. So, it seems like Mikel Arteta is going to purchase ‘two players’ in Havertz.

Havertz to Arsenal

Fjortoft also says that Havertz could flourish under the Gunners boss’ tutelage and the pundit feels that the versatile forward would be a key first-team member at the Emirates Stadium.

Fjortoft said:

“I think this could be one of the smartest signings of the whole transfer window. I think with great coaching he will take steps, this is one of my favourite players back in the Leverkusen days.

“I think Arsenal fans have got to trust [Mikel] Arteta. He’s seen as part of their broader squad and the first team. I don’t think he’s taking him to put on the bench. With Kai Havertz, they’ve got an eight, a 10, he can play as a striker. I think this is a very smart signing, it’s like signing two players.”

It has previously been reported that Arteta is a big fan of Havertz and the Spaniard is confident that he can help the forward reach his full potential by bringing the best out of him. So, the 24-year-old could turn out to be a shrewd signing for Arsenal.
