Arsenal open talks to sign Chelsea star Kai Havertz

By on June 15, 2023

Arsenal have reportedly opened formal talks to sign Chelsea star Kai Havertz, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Having spent more than £600m over the last two transfer windows, the Blues are forced to sell some of their stars this summer to balance the books in order to comply with the FFP rules. It appears Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign Havertz to strengthen their squad.

The German was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid over the last few weeks. But, it has been suggested that Chelsea want a fee of around £75m to let their star man leave and Los Blancos aren’t prepared to spend that much money to sign the 24-year-old so they have pulled the plug on this deal.

It seems Arsenal have now joined the race to purchase Havertz as writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Arsenal have opened formal negotiations with Chelsea to acquire the German’s service after holding positive talks with the player’s representatives.

Havertz to Arsenal

The journalist further claims in a different Tweet that Arsenal feel the Blues’ £75m valuation is too high and Chelsea are open to being flexible regarding their asking price as Havertz is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Romano wrote:

“Arsenal are in talks to sign Kai Havertz after positive contacts on player side — he’s keen on the move. Chelsea want around £75m for Havertz now, Arsenal will not pay that amount.

“More on Kai Havertz. Sources feel that Chelsea could be flexible about price tag after initial £75m request considered too high by Arsenal.”

Moreover, writing on Caught Offside, Romano has stated that Mikel Arteta is a ‘big fan’ of the Chelsea star and the Spaniard thinks he can help the midfielder reach his full potential by bringing the best out of him.

Havertz displayed his best during his time at Bayer Leverkusen while playing in the attacking midfield position. But, the 24-year-old has never been given the chance to play in that role at Chelsea as he has continuously been getting deployed as a false nine over the last few years.

Mikel Arteta likes to play with a 4-3-3 system and it remains to be seen how the Spaniard will integrate the German in his squad if Arsenal were to push forward and get a deal done for Havertz.
