Arsenal keeping tabs on Real Sociedad star Le Normand

By on April 20, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly keeping an eye on Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old joined the Erreala B side back in 2016 from Stade Brestois. After impressing for the reserves, the Frenchman was promoted to the first-team squad and now he has established himself as a key member in Imanol Alguacil’s starting eleven in recent years.

The defender has been enjoying a promising campaign this term, helping his side in their quest to finish top four in La Liga and qualify for the Champions League next season. Having displayed eye-catching performances for La Real in recent campaigns, Le Normand has attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe, including Arsenal.

Writing on Caught offside, Romano has reported that Arsenal have sent scouts to monitor Le Normand’s development ahead of a potential summer move and Real Sociedad are expected to ask €50m [£44m] – which is his release clause – to let their star man leave if the Gunners opt to formalise their interest.

Le Normand to Arsenal

The journalist further claims that along with Le Normand, Arsenal have also been monitoring another Real Sociedad player, Martin Zubimendi and they could make a summer swoop for him as well.

Romano also states that Arsenal will make moves to bolster their squad in the coming weeks but they haven’t made any concrete approach yet.

Romano wrote:

“Arsenal sent their scouts to follow both Zubimendi and Le Normand this year as they’re doing excellent with Sociedad, but nothing is concrete yet. The Gunners’ plans on new signings will be made in the next weeks, nothing is advanced yet. The price for Le Normand is the release clause: €50m.”

Le Normand still has more than three years left in his current contract. Therefore, Real Sociedad are in no rush to sell their star man this summer, so Arsenal would need to trigger the £44m release clause to sign the Frenchman if they decide to formalise their interest.

Le Normand, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is a right-footed centre-back. He is comfortable playing out from the back, is quick, good in the air and is excellent in defensive contributions.

The Real Sociedad ace would be an ideal option to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based style of football. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they manage to get a deal over the line at the end of this season.
