Arsenal contemplating summer swoop for Wilfried Zaha
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a summer swoop for Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha, as per the French outlet Foot Mercato.
The 30-year-old has established himself as a talismanic figure at Selhurst Park since joining the club almost a decade ago from Manchester United in a £3m deal.
However, the winger has entered the final three months of his current contract and has expressed his desire to leave the club for free at the end of this season to take a new challenge in his career.
It appears Arsenal are waiting in the wings to take advantage of this situation and sign the Ivorian in the upcoming summer window to strengthen their attacking department.
According to the report by Foot Mercato, Zaha wants to evaluate his option freely at the end of this season and Arsenal are looking to sign him as a free agent for next season.
Zaha to Arsenal
The report further claims that Arsenal will have to offer a lucrative contract to persuade Zaha – who earns a fee of around £5m per annum at Palace – to move to Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, Foot Mercato also says that Arsenal will face tough competition from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco in securing the Ivory Coast international’s signature as they are also lining up a swoop for him.
The forward likes to play on the left flank but can be deployed anywhere across the front line. He is quick, strong, excellent in dribbling, can create chances for fellow attackers and also has an eye for scoring goals.
Zaha is an extremely talented player and has already showcased his ability in the Premier League over the last few years. So, he would provide substance to Arsenal’s attack if the winger were to move to North London this summer.
However, the 30-year-old lacks consistency so I think he wouldn’t be an ideal signing to strengthen their front line. But, given the player is set to be available for free, Arsenal could take a punt and sign him at the end of this season.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in signing Zaha – valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt – if he eventually ends up leaving Selhurst Park this summer.
