Arsenal suffer fresh Thomas Partey injury scare
Arsenal have suffered a fresh injury scare ahead of the weekend’s Premier League clash against Leeds United as Thomas Partey has returned from international duty with a new leg issue, as per the recent reports.
Fitness problems are ever-increasing for the Ghanaian in recent times as the ex-Atletico Madrid man has already missed a few crucial games owing to injury problems this term and it is now becoming a real headache for Mikel Arteta.
According to the report by Goal, Partey has flown back to London after picking up a fresh knock in training with his national team. The midfielder will now be assessed over the next few days before knowing the severity of his injury.
Ghana boss Chris Houghton confirmed the news and said that Partey was sidelined in yesterday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola as a consequence of that injury.
Houghton said:
“Thomas has some small injury issues. We felt it was too big a risk to start him.”
Partey suffers a fresh injury
However, in a huge boost to Arsenal, Goal has also said that Partey’s injury doesn’t look like anything serious and he should be available for selection this weekend.
Partey has been an integral part of Arsenal’s success this season as they haven’t lost a game in the Premier League yet when the Ghanaian played a full 90 minutes. So, if the midfielder was ruled out due to the latest issue then that would be a huge loss for the north London club in their quest of winning the title.
Jorginho was signed this winter to fill the Ghanaian’s void for times such as this. He’s impressed on occasion but Arsenal just aren’t the same team without Partey in the middle of the park.
The Gunners will be in action against the relegation-threatened Peacocks on Saturday before travelling to Anfield to take on Liverpool next weekend so, a couple of tough fixtures lie ahead for Arsenal.
The Emirates faithful will be hoping that the 29-year-old will be able to shake off this current problem and will be fit enough to feature in the upcoming important games.
