Arsenal eyeing swoop for Leicester ace James Maddison
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a summer swoop for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, as per the 90min.
The 26-year-old joined the Foxes back in 2018 from Norwich City for a fee of around £22m. Since moving to the King Power Stadium, the midfielder has showcased his talent in the English top-flight over the last few years and has established himself as an integral part of the East Midlands club’s first eleven.
Maddison has entered the final 18 months of his current contract and is yet to renew his deal with Brandan Rodgers’ side. So, the midfielders future at the King Power Stadium is uncertain and it appears Mikel Arteta is looking to take advantage of the situation.
According to the report by 90min, Leicester are pushing hard to convince the midfielder to commit his long-term future with the club, but Maddison is reluctant to sign an extension due to the fact that he wants to play European football.
The report further claims that Arsenal are showing an interest in signing the talented midfielder and are monitoring the Englishman’s situation ahead of a potential summer move. But, signing Maddison won’t be easy for the Gunners’ as they are set to face competition from Newcastle United and Manchester City in getting a deal done.
Maddison to Arsenal
If Maddison doesn’t sign a renewal over the coming months then Leicester could look to cash in on the England international – who is valued at around £49m by Transfermarkt – at the end of this season before his price decreases.
The midfielder is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is excellent in delivering crosses from set pieces, has the ability to create chances for the forward players and also can score goals.
So, Maddison would be a great acquisition for Arsenal and would definitely strengthen the midfield department if they manage to broker a deal for him at the end of the season.
Arteta is keen to strengthen his midfield options in the summer but we’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal formalise their interest in signing Maddison or focus on other targets.
