Arsenal are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing AS Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo in January, as per the Italian outlet La Repubblica (via Forza Roma).

The 23-year-old was deemed to be one of the best young talents in world football just a few years ago but injury issues have hindered his development.

The youngster – valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt – has entered the final 18 months of his current contract with the Giallorossi and he is yet to commit to his long-term future at the Stadio Olimpico. So, this situation has alerted potential suitors.

According to the report by La Repubblica (via Forza Roma), after losing out to Chelsea in pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Arsenal are left with an ‘avalanche’ of cash and they are looking to spend it to reinforce their attack.

The report further claims that Mikel Arteta is keen on signing a versatile forward – who can play on both flanks – this month. Zaniolo is one of the players on the Spaniard’s wish-list and Arsenal have already made contact over a potential move to sign the Italian.

The report also adds that Roma could be open to parting ways with their star this month and could ask a fee of at least £26m [€30m] to let the forward leave.

Arsenal have been displaying consistent performance since the start of this season and they showcased their quality once again last Sunday when they swept arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur aside and won the north London Derby 2-0.

Following this victory, the Premier League leaders have now extended the gap at the top to eight points and they are now the bookmakers’ favourites to win the Premier League title this term.

Adding more firepower to the squad, especially in the frontline where they lack options, this winter will help Arteta’s side in continuing performing at their best throughout the rest of the season and maintain their title charge.

Zaniolo would be a solid addition to the squad as he’d give Arteta another top class option in the final third, but we’ll have to wait and see how talks develop over the coming days.
