Arsenal considering a move for Spanish starlet Fresneda
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda, as per The Telegraph.
Mikel Arteta has stated multiple times that the Emirates outfit are exploring the possibility of strengthening their squad this month and if the opportunity arises then they will try to sign some new faces.
According to the report by The Telegraph, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Spanish talent Fresneda. The youngster is expected to leave Valladolid this month and the Gunners are keen on taking advantage of this opportunity and brokering a deal for him. However, Arsenal would prefer to sign the defender in the summer rather than in January.
The report further states that Mikel Arteta’s side will need to spend a fee of at least £10m, potential up to £15m, to secure the Spaniard’s signature. However, signing the talented defender won’t be easy as several European giants as well as a few Premier League rivals are also looking to sign the 18-year-old.
Fresneda to Arsenal
The Valladolid man has established himself as a regular starter at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium and he has displayed glimpses of his talent at the Spanish top-flight this term despite Pacheta’s side’s recent struggles.
So, the 18-year-old would be an exciting long-term signing for Arsenal. With Cedric Soares looking likely to move away from the Emirates Stadium this month or next summer, a replacement is needed and Fresneda could be an excellent option.
The Valladolid man would be a signing for the future – if he joins the club – so the Arsenal fans would need to give him time to develop and flourish in the Premier League before imposing the pressure of expectations.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal formalise their interest in signing Fresneda this month to try and beat their rivals to his signature, or wait until the summer when they may face even more competition.
Having already got Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu at his disposal, Arteta doesn’t need more reinforcement in the right-back position this month. They lack options in midfield and in attack, Arsenal may decide to focus on strengthening those areas this month meaning any move for Fresneda may have to wait.
