Signing Joao Felix could be a ‘possibility’ for Arsenal
Signing Atlético Madrid forward Joao Felix could reportedly be a real ‘possibility’ for Arsenal in the upcoming January transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 23-year-old joined the La Liga giants back in 2019 from SL Benfica for a whooping £108m fee. The youngster moved to the Spanish capital with the reputation of being one of the best young talents in world football. However, he has failed to blossom at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano following the big-money move.
Having endured a torrid time in the Spanish league over the last few years, the forward is likely to leave Atlético next month after falling out with Diego Simeone. And a recent report claimed that the Portuguese’s agent Jorge Mendes is currently working hard to find a new destination for his client ahead of the winter window.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal have had a conversation with Felix’s agent over a possible move this January. However, the Gunners are yet to open formal negotiations with Atlético Madrid to sign the highly talented forward.
Joao Felix to Arsenal
The journalist further says that purchasing Felix could be a ‘possibility’ for Arsenal this winter but Atletico Madrid may need to lower their financial demands for a deal to happen in January.
Romano told GiveMeSport:
“If Atletico Madrid in the next days or weeks change the conditions on the deal, it could be a possibility for many clubs, not just for Arsenal. But at the moment, it’s not something concrete or advanced just a conversation with his agent that happened. And so, we have to consider it as a possibility but not as something advanced.”
As per Ben Jacobs, Atletico Madrid are asking a fee of around £85m to sell their youngster this January. So, a loan move is a more realistic scenario for Arsenal and they will need to pay an £8m fee to sign the forward temporarily until the end of this season.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will make a move to sign Felix next month. The Emirates outfit have intensified their efforts to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk this January to bolster their forward line and purchasing both Mudryk and Felix would definitely increase the Gunners’ possibility of winning the Premier League title this term after 18 years.
