Former defender turned pundit Scott Minto has claimed that Arsenal can win the race to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham next summer.

The 19-year-old joined the Bundesliga giants during the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City for a fee of around £23m. The youngster took no time to settle down in the new surroundings and straightaway found his feet at the Signal Iduna Park.

The midfielder has started the new season brilliantly this term, scoring nine goals and registering three assists in 22 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.

Bellingham has been linked with a move away from Dortmund next summer. A previous report claimed that Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all keen on signing the Englishman, with BVB asking for a fee of around €150m (£130m) to sell their star performer.

Meanwhile, speaking to Ladbrokes (via Football.london), Minto has said that Arsenal can also persuade Bellingham into moving to the Emirates Stadium next summer if Mikel Arteta’s side can manage to finish in second or win the Premier League title this season. If that were to be the case then, the north London club would become a tempting destination for him as much as Manchester City.

Jude Bellingham to Arsenal

Minto further states that Liverpool were an exciting destination for the Dortmund ace at the start of this season. But, after a poor start to this campaign, it’s not certain whether they will be able to qualify for the Champions League next season. So, Jurgen Klopp’s side could fall behind in the race to sign Bellingham if they fail to finish in the top four this term.

Minto also says that Arsenal would need quality players in their squad to compete in the Champions League next season – if they secure their place in Europe’s elite club competition – and the Gunners should make a move for the 19-year-old.

Minto said:

“Up until the start of this season, everybody was saying he’s Liverpool’s player because they were right up there with Manchester City. But I’m still wondering whether or not they’re going to make the top four.

“He’s good enough to play a key role for the very best teams in the world, and the very best team for me is Manchester City, but if Arsenal can finish in the top four, or better still, in second place, or even go on to win the title, then all of a sudden they become as attractive a proposition as City, just like that.

“When you look at what that team is all about under Mikel Arteta, and there’d be a need for them to strengthen if they’re playing on Europe’s biggest stage, why couldn’t they go and get a Bellingham?”

Jude Bellingham would certainly be a great acquisition for Arsenal. The youngster has already showcased his talent during his time in Bundesliga and has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in world football. So, the fans will be hoping that the England international would be able to replicate the same performance at the Emirates Stadium if he were to join the club.

However, it would be almost unrealistic for Arsenal to purchase the midfielder – who still has two and a half years left in his current contract – if Dortmund demand the reported £130m fee to sell their biggest asset next summer.
